Now is the time to be sharpening up your skills to get a leap on the competition and to enhance your racing enjoyment. Chris Jones is hosting race training sessions, 11am-4pm on the following Saturdays:

The sessions are open to all members who wish to improve their racing skills. The content of each day will be influenced by wind conditions and ability of the group but will include core skills such as boat handling, starts, mark rounding and race tactics.
It’s £15 for single-handers and £20 for double-handers. To reserve your place please email chrisjonessailingcoach@gmail.com Sessions are limited to 12 boats and all classes are welcome.

Just a quick post to let everyone know that the South West Youth Sailing Academy have approached SBSC requesting to visit the reservoir for a couple of weekends over the coming winter season. This has been agreed to and they will be joining us over the weekends of 10/11th Dec ’16 and 21/22 Jan. ’17.
These sessions form a part of their overall 6 month winter training programme which includes both initial sailing & race training at a variety of sea, river and reservoir venues.
They will be conducting a programme of structured training both on and off the water, using their own boats which comprise mainly RS Teras and Toppers.
There are a limited number of places available for cadet sailors from SBSC to join this training programme whilst they are at our reservoir. If you know of any SBSC cadet sailor who would like to take advantage of this opportunity, please let me know before December 6th (Tuesday week), either directly or via the email group.

WHERE?: Sutton Bingham Sailing Club (Nr. Yeovil)
YOUR COACHES: Chris Jones, 3X Laser Radial Masters National Champion and Rob Dyer, former Laser 4.7 National Champion.
COST: SBSC Members £27.50, Club Visitors £30
A great chance to enhance your Laser racing skills and techniques. Theme for the day will be “Less rudder more body dynamics” with plenty of on the water routines and thorough debrief sessions.
Lunch will be available for purchase from the galley.

AUTUMN RACE TRAINING
I’m pleased to announce the following dates for race training sessions at SBSC:
Saturday 3 September and Saturday 17 September, 2.30pm – 5pm
Group sessions open to all classes of dinghy and aimed towards all club racers who want to improve their racing skills. The content of each session will depend on weather conditions on the day and requirements of participants, but will certainly include start practice and mark rounding techniques. We will spend as much time on the water as possible but will cover some theory and tactics too, together with some video analysis. Price per session: Single-handers £15, double-handers £20. Group size limited to 12. A great opportunity to brush up your skills ahead of the Laser Open Meeting (1 October) and the Club Championship (2 October).
Laser Clinic – Saturday 15 October, 10.30am – 4.30pm
Laser specific race training day. This is open to members of SBSC and Laser sailors from other local sailing clubs. More details to follow on Facebook / Chris Jones Sailing and the SBSC Yahoo Newsgroup.

Each session will include on the water practice exercises, 4.30pm – 6pm, followed by the evening race and then a debrief at The Foresters Arms, Holywell, nr East Coker for about an hour.
Sessions are £10 for single-handers and £15 for double-handers. Mick & Marcus, Jo & Emily and Kelsey have indicated that they’re coming this Thursday.

LAST CALL FOR RACE TRAINING, SATURDAY 2ND APRIL
If my records are correct we have 4 more places available on “Introduction to Racing” which takes place tomorrow, 11am – 4pm.
The session is particularly aimed at those relatively new to racing or those that have not raced but would like to. The exact programme will depend on the ability and experience of those that attend and the wind strength (current forecast 13-14 mph). Practices will include race starts which are a crucial skill for all sailors and especially for beginners to master.
I am happy for more experienced sailors to join us to benefit from starting practice and perhaps to mentor some of the race newbies.
